Actually Shanks is an archaeologist, historian and author of international repute with a life time of work and study behind him. Which beats the hell out of one person who is getting all their information out of one book without any collaboration.
Btw *Yahweh and his Asherah* is mentioned in documents and on pottery shards associated with the dead sea scrolls. Pg153 in The Mystery and Meaning of the Dead Sea Scrolls by Hershel Shanks.
Sorry to be a know it all, but I just finished re-reading it.
i know it postings have gone in a different direction but i'll put my two cents on that whole good vs. bad god idea
sense "good" and "bad" are human consepts you can't expect a diety who is supposedly "perfect" to have these same concepts that are lead by emotions
and on top of that nothing can be purely "good" or "bad", if this happens then the being while sort of self-destruct. the deity would have to be in the middle way between good and bad if there is one or just be indifferent to anything that is happening...
heh, hold up there buddy. I am not waiting for death. I am saying that death will tell you if you were right or wrong. I know what I know, and I know i am right for me. You are right for you, Gaid is right for Gaid, and so forth, so on, and etc.
For one day David, stop trying to correct people and talk to them. Ask them if they like bowling. Ask what they think of the Denver Broncos. Or something. If smoeone wants to perpetuate what you consider ignorance, stupidity, and fallacy, well then let em.
2. (Roman) Catholicism did not go back to paganism, it never left it. Xtianity as practised by the Jewish converts was a lot different (and still is today, though the line is not unbroken) most especially, they did not believe that Jesus was divine (many were related to him and had lived with him and they denied any claim that Jesus ever said otherwise). Modern converts from Judaism, of course, tow the orthodox line on that point.
3. What's wrong with the fact that RCC incorporated much of the older faiths into itself? Judaism is no less pagan, in fact. Modern (protestant) Xtianity resembles many Hermetic cults, too. Of course it does tend to mitigate against the notion of a 'perfect faith' handed down intact from on high, but if you want that, you need Islam not Xtianity.
I don't think Catholicism reverted back to Paganism. I think Catholicism was a natural way for Pagans to become gradually Christianized and it laid the foundation for more puritanical concepts. SPIRITUAL EVOLUTION!
""...and then catholics evolved back to paganism...I hear what you're saying but what you're saying is limited in what's real. You all have some whacked out opinion that match each others but doesn't make any of it right. If it were right then you all wouldn't need to pass down the things taught by church as being accurate truth from the bible. One person starts a rumor and you all follow, yet nobody searches the truth out.""
And just who exactly said YOU were right David? We are ALL wrong until proven otherwise, and that proof only comes in the form of Death.
goddamn it!
look what is the point of discussing religion??
your not gona change a persons view on what you believe, its upto them! me i dont care, why should you,i wont go hassling any christian or jew, hell i'm catholic the only religion if you can call it that i hate is islam, for reasons you can all most likely guess
The Jewish God, who is the Christian God, had a female consort, the old Canaanite Mother Goddess Asherah. Why? because Christianity came from Judaism and Judaism came from Paganism. Spiritual Evolution!!!!
