What is it that goths know that others do not? Do you honestly think that "they" spend there time fearing you or even thinking of you?
I think that goths 'Love' the attention and want to stand out as well as (goths) thinking that everybody is looking at them.
I would guess that most people look at goths so strangely is because they must ask themselves how anybody can operate (function) in this world being such a freak?
Why would anybody even bother worrying about what others think or how others perceive you?
What do you mean when you say they do not know or even understand who and what Goths stand for? Of course they know and understand goths! Everybody understands it in there own way.
Just as you think you understand goth. How many times has it been asked what is goth (on this forum)? So everybody has their own understanding.

If you really want the truth, goth is about as ignorant as it gets! For real. But that is OK because that is the way some like to roll in life, it works for me

the reson most of them stare and insult goths is couse there scared. people are allways scared of what they don't understand or what is different to them.

Funny.. I noticed how quickly it became "Us" vs. "Them" I find this kind of funny coming from so many people who pride themselves on being open minded..
And if They stare, well I'd imagine either they are interested, or wary from a past unpleasant encounter with troublemakers sharing similar fashion tastes. I know whenever I sport a cape in public I get people reaching protectivly for their necks..

I'm not sure I understand how this makes anyone different from anyone else. As far as I can tell, each and every individual person values their own opinion far more then anyone else's.

Emo's are cool, i consider my self more of an emo than a goth, although i do listen to a lot of gothic music-i personally think thiers a thin line between the two.
In my opinion i think those who stare and are curious about Goth's and the like, envy our ability to put our own thoughts and opinions before anyone eleses.
I remember in my last year of secondary school it was our last non uniform day and i came dressed as a pirate,anyway it was great coz i love dressing up and ignored peoples comments coz at the end of the day there was a lot of people with eyeliner moustaches (i went to an all girl school)! It just goes to show it only takes one person to test the water and others will follow!

They are incapable of comprehending why fitting in with the status quo doesn't obsess you as much as it obsesses them. So, they think you must be mentally deficient or deviated.
Hmmm... you have a point there. It' not because they want to look like us, it's because they trouble themselves with the question: how come we are not ashamed of how we look?. But that kind of people definitely have more problems than we do. And I say F**k'em;)
