Oh yeah and GENE MOTHERFU*KING KRUPA
thank you doomgoth. no not really i have my own style but he is like my role model and yes bill ward is an excellent drummer but bonham made me want to start playing. I quess he inspired me. and my best friend when i was 8 his dad listened to led zepplin all the time in his car so he is the person who gave me my first listen of bonham.

i have to disagree on lars. he is a moderate drummer at best. prior to metallica, the only thing he could play was tennis. as far as introducing the world to double bass, dave lombardo has that honor hands down on reign in blood. it came out a good four years prior. lars is descent, but far from any top drummer lists. as far as neil peart, he is THE best.
Actually if you listen to any hardcore jazz, you'll hear plenty of double bass and triplets...just not power drumming.
Most metal drummers are pretty one dimensional - speed.
Gene Hoglan is one who uses his drums as instruments...I can appreciate that. There are others too.
I'm also still a Lombardo fan...he has some versatility, beilve it or not...
i do know exactly what you mean my man. jazz drummers are a bit phenominal, while being very under appreciated. very fast, and lots of insane time signitures. there is a drum solo by terry bozzio (of frank zappa fame), called jazz for one, it is pretty insane. another drummer that is pretty off the hook, is mastodons, Brann Dailor, i hear a pretty heavy jazz influence there.
I don't disagree with what you say s8. Don't get me wrong, Dave Lombardo is awesome. Sometimes I wonder how if his feet ever got caught on fire during the time he was in the studio and on the road for "Reign in Blood." Slayer is one of my all time fav bands.

i bow down to the greatest drummer of all time John Bonham. he was my role model. since the first time i heard led zepplin it made me want to grab some drum sticks grow my hair longer and beat the hell out of a drumset until i sounded like him. i am close but John Bonham was a genius and noone will ever be able to touch him.
Bobby Jarzombek who played for Halford, Iced Earth, Demons and Wizards, Juggernaut, Riot, and Spastic Ink. he is a pretty baddass drummer too. Zak Nolan and Zack Simmons, both played for Goatwhore, Thomas Stauch and Frederik Ehmke, both of which played for Blind Gaurdian. Tomas Haake of Meshuggah, although im pretty sure its been said, its definately worth a second or third mention, he is just amazing behind a drum kit. Diego Meraviglia (Grom), from Hortus Animae, Ancient, and DoomSword.
