punk rock use to be about not giving a fuck, parting, having a good time, being yourself. Now it seems to have changed, when I heard bands like blink 182, sum 41, anti-flag, ect., I almost puked. It's a damn shame really, you know the world turned to shit when bad religion is opening for blink 182. I have to say that there is a lot of local bands keeping the sprit of punk rock alive.

True. When anyone asks me about punk band, I harken back to the 70s' and 80's to the sounds of the Ramones and to Black Flag, the Circle Jerks, to DRI and to some of the anarcho bands that came out of the UK during the period. It was loud, fast, melodic or noisy, didn't matter. It was the energy of the music that really got me hooked. To date one of the best albums I still have is the soundtrack to "The Decline of Western Civilization" the first one. That had some of the best crowd interaction sequences I have ever heard. I highly recommend the Fear tracks on that album. That was back before the Fear went all wambly on us. Just a few more bands for the old timers out there, old Siouxie and the Banshees, the Meatmen, Bad Posture. Go ahead, add to the list. One of my favorite local bands that traveled south florida was a band called "F". I have a really hard time finding thier material. About the only stuff I have is a set of recordings from a show that used to air on Monday nights at midnight on public radio called "Off the Beaten Path" with a fellow named Bob Slade. He'd do a two hour show that I would record religiously and then share with all of my friends. Excellent show, excellent music, excellent scene back then. And much thanks to a fellow named Richard Shelter and Shelter productions and the Cameo Theatre on Washington Ave. in Miami Beach. Many good times had there.

Holy crap! We have blog signatures?!?

like all music, it evolves dude. Rock n roll used to mean 50s and 60s music. Now it also means lots of the 80s and such... Rockabilly used to be 1952 -53, now its modern rockabilly blended into psycobilly and gothabilly. Punk used to mean british such as sex pistols, now its evolved too. Each style of music ever made has been blended, adapted, added to and taken away from. Its the natural progression otherwise we would all still be listening to a cave man banging a stick on a log!
As for subject matter, every genre of music basically sings about the same things, just some get to use more colorful metaphores than others!

We should welcome the changes while still liking our favorites.

Well thats my 10c worth!

keep punking along snake

cheers
